NHS East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group (ELR CCG) has welcomed Dr Ursula Montgomery as its new Chair.
Dr Montgomery is a GP partner at Central Surgery, Oadby. She has played an active role in healthcare leadership across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) over recent years and also chairs the Integrated Community Board leading on health, community and social care integration for the benefit of patients across LLR.
Until recently, Dr Montgomery held the position of Associate Medical Director at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust where her focus has been on supporting clinicians to improve care for patients through closer working between primary and secondary care.
Dr Montgomery is a University of Leicester graduate and has previously held roles as Clinical Head of Surgeries for The Practice Group and Director of Clinical Governance at InHealth.
Dr Montgomery said: “It is a privilege to be elected as the next chair of East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group. I am pleased to be working with the CCG team, our practices, partners and stakeholders to drive further improvements in our local NHS for the benefit of our citizens.
“Health services in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland need to adapt to current and future demand and population growth. I will lead the CCG with a focus on collaboration, building on strong local relationships to improve services for the changing needs of our population.
“I will be attending public meetings across our area next month as the CCG and our Better Care Together partners continue conversations with local people about the changes needed to help improve health services. I am looking forward to sharing our plans and listening to the views of the public.”
Dr Montgomery takes over the role of Chair from Dr Richard Palin, who led the CCG from 2015. She was elected to the position by GP members of ELR CCG in an election process earlier this month.
Karen English, Managing Director, said: “We are pleased to welcome Dr Montgomery to our organisation and look forward to working with her.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Palin for his hard work and dedication in improving health and care services in our area. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Dr Palin said: “It’s hard to put into words just how much I have enjoyed and valued my years serving as Chair. I am very proud of the achievements we’ve made in improving care and services for our patients. I’d like to thank the team at the CCG, my fellow Board members and the GPs, nurses and practice staff across East Leicestershire and Rutland for everything they have contributed over my time with the organisation particularly against the backdrop of the significant and increasing pressures and challenges faced by the NHS. I would also like to thank our partners across health and social care and the wider community, for their ongoing support in finding shared solutions to improving local health and care.”
Dr Montgomery will Chair her first Governing Body meeting on Tuesday 13 November in the Council Chambers, Leicestershire County Council, County Hall, Glenfield, Leicestershire LE3 8TB.
