The bulletin will help you to keep up to speed with what is happening in the local NHS.  Please do share with your networks to help us reach as many people as possible.

Please give us feedback and tell us what you want to know more about. If you have any questions or would like to ask about a topic please email us at: PressOfficeLLRCCGs@leicestershire.nhs.uk

1. Grab a jab this weekend at King Power Stadium

People can get the Covid vaccine today and this weekend at Leicester’s King Power Stadium, as the NHS teams up with Leicester City Football Club once again.

This is the fourth time vaccine clinics have been hosted at the stadium. People can walk in anytime between 11am and 7pm today, this Saturday and Sunday (28, 29 and 30 January). No appointment is required but anyone wishing to attend at a specific time can reserve a place in advance at  https://bit.ly/LLRVacBook
.
Today’s clinic is open to people aged 16+ and the Saturday and Sunday clinics are open to those aged 12+.

Showing his support for the vaccination programme, Leicester City Football Club Ambassador, Alan Birchenall, said: “It’s great for us to be hosting the Covid vaccination clinics once again at King Power Stadium this weekend.

“It’s important for us all to remember that Covid has not gone away, so it’s vital that anyone who is eligible for a vaccine comes forward to have one, whether it be their first, second, third or booster dose.”

People aged 18 and over can have the second vaccine dose eight weeks after their first dose. People aged 12 to 17 can have the second dose twelve weeks after their first dose.

A third ‘top-up’ dose is offered to those aged over 12 who were severely immunosuppressed at the time of their first or second dose. You will be contacted by the NHS if you need a third dose, please bring proof of your eligibility if you attend a clinic for this dose.

You can have a booster if you are aged 16 or over or if you are aged 12 to 15 and you are extremely clinically vulnerable, or if you live with an adult who is extremely clinically vulnerable. The booster is given at least three months after your second dose.

Detailed information about the vaccine and who is currently eligible can be found on the national NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/who-can-get-the-vaccine/

3. Return to Plan A following success of vaccination programme

Thanks to the successful contribution of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, this week England returned to Plan A restrictions.

Plan B measures were previously brought in following the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, allowing the NHS to rapidly expand its booster programme.

Changes to restrictions include:
People will no longer be advised to work from home
Face coverings will no longer be mandatory in indoor venues; however it is recommended individuals should continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces
Organisations will be able to choose whether to require NHS COVID Passes
While COVID restrictions are easing, everyone visiting hospitals, GP practices, dentists, optometrists and pharmacies must continue to wear a face covering, unless they are unable to do so for medical reasons.

This will help to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors and staff, especially those who are more vulnerable to infection.

Despite the easing of restrictions people are still being reminded that vaccination is our best defence against Covid-19.

4. Encouraging booster uptake for people with learning disabilities

A selection of resources has been developed to support people with learning disabilities and provide them with information about the Covid-19 vaccine:

  • An easy read leaflet about the Covid-19 vaccine can be viewed by visiting: https://tinyurl.com/CovidEasyReadLeaflet
  • The Misfits Theatre Company have also created a video to encourage the uptake for booster vaccinations for people with learning disabilities, which can be viewed below

Please help us to circulate this information by sharing within your networks and communities.

In addition to this people with learning disabilities and autism are being invited to book in at specialist COVID-19 vaccination clinics to enable people to get their boosters and vaccines in a calm and friendly environment that meets their needs.

The clinics will be held on the following dates and venues:

  • Wednesday 23 February: the Peepul Centre
  • Thursday 31 March: Loughborough Hospital

All clinics will run from 10am to 6pm and need to be booked in advance. The vaccine used will be Pfizer.

The sessions are open to anyone with a learning disability or autism in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, aged 12 or over, who is due for a first, second or booster COVID-19 vaccination. They are designed for people who need a more supportive environment than an ordinary clinic can provide.

The clinics will offer a calm atmosphere, longer appointment times and be staffed by vaccinators specialising in learning disability support and care.

To book, please us the following links. Please specify in the additional comments box if you need for us to make any specialist adaptations, such as needing a private or quiet space.

5. Crisis cafes set to be expanded across LLR

The three CCGs in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, together with  Leicestershire Partnership Trust (LPT), have partnered with Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL) to deliver the first expansion of its Crisis Cafes.

Under the partnership, VAL will oversee a grant programme that will invite voluntary and community organisations to bid to run a café or a number of cafes on behalf of their community. This will see grants awarded to local organisations to increase the number of cafes from an initial three (the pilot projects) to 15 by the end of 2022. The final number of cafes will be in the region of 25 by the end of March 2023.

Sam Marandi from the CCG  said: “This is an important project for the development of mental health services across our area. It demonstrates the commitment from the NHS to work collaboratively with community groups as we know they are best placed to tailor the services to their local community’s need.”

For more information visit VAL’s website here: https://valonline.org.uk/crisis-cafe-grants/
